New CMR Projects in 2012 - CMR Yamaha TZ750

2012 has been an exciting year for CMR Racing Products Inc. and as the year draws to a close, the orders keep coming in from all around the world. Here's an exciting update about a new project we're working on for a racer based in the United States.

One of the very fast classic racers here in North America happens to be an ex-pat Brit like CMR President Denis. Dave Crussell lives in San Francisco and races all around the world. If you read Classic Racer magazine from the UK, you will have seen him featured there. In 2012 Dave competed in Australia at the Philip Island Classic Event in January. In August Dave took part in the Bikers' Classics in Belgium at Spa Francorchamps, then in September he rode in the Manx Grand Prix on the Isle of Man. Dave called us the other day and ordered one of our CMR Yamaha TZ750 frame kits. His 2013 plans are to run the Classic TT campaign at the Isle of Man. Dave believes that the light-weight 4-cylinder 2-stroke engine in a strong, great-handling frame built to accept modern wide lower profile slick tires is the way to go for him in 2013. Dave now has his bike almost together.

 Thanks for the order Dave!

CMR Success Stories - Tim Voyer our 2012 Sponsored Rider on the CMR Drixton Mk II Honda CB350 Twin

Tim Voyer won the 2012 Canadian VRRA (Vintage Road Racing Association www.vrra.ca) Period 2 Lightweight Championship. Well Done Tim!!

Tim. from North Bay Ontario has been classic and vintage road racing for several years and was previously sponsored by CMR in 2009 on a CMR Drixton Honda.

After taking over running the family automotive service garage in 2010, Tim took a sabbatical until late 2011. He returned to full-time racing in 2012 on several machines including the CMR Drixton Mk II.

As this update is being written, Tim is on his way to Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham Alabama, USA for the end-of-season Barber Vintage Festival. Tim is very keen to compete there for the first time as the track and facilities are really exceptional. The calibre of competition is also very high, with racers coming from Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and many more from the US and Canada.

We know Tim will do his very best to make us proud.

Great rider, and superbly handling CMR machines, a winning combination. Watch for CMR-sponsored Tim Voyer in 2013 riding CMR Racing Products at Canadian VRRA and USA AHRMA, AMA and WERA events

CMR Success Stories - 2012/13 update on sponsored rider Mick Vaclavik

Mick on his CMR Drixton Yamaha 750 twin at Mosport
UPDATE October 2012
Ex-pat Brit racer Mick and his partner Natalie were dealt a heavy blow early in the 2012 racing season when they learned that Natalie's father was very ill back home in the UK. He has since passed away and CMR extends to Mick, Natalie and their family our sincere condolences.

Naturally Mick was unable to compete with his CMR Drixton Yamaha this season but according to an email recently received, he was going through the Drixton ready for the 2013 race season.

CMR has been sponsoring Mick Vaclavik of Ontario, Canada since the beginning of 2011. The company supplied Mick with a very trick Drixton frame/swing-arm/gas tank kit for his Yamaha XS650 engine fitted with a 750 big-bore kit. He  had a great season at events throughout North America in 2011. Mick will be a rider to watch in 2013.

Denis selected Mick for CMR sponsorship because of the potential he saw in this rider. Toivo Madrus, a good friend of Denis' who had been helping Mick with engine modifications, suggested CMR sponsor Mick. In 2011 Mick won the Canadian VRRA (Vintage Road Racing Association) Period II and III Championships.

Mick was running very strongly in 2009 and 2010 on his stock-framed Yamaha XS750, but had been finishing in the middle of the pack despite riding extremely well. Mick thought that the Yamaha's handling was an issue; Denis believed that a CMR Drixton frame kit could realize Mick's podium potential. So CMR Racing Products reworked the very popular and successful Drixton design and produced a  frame to accommodate Mick's own wheels, brakes and forks. CMR built the the high-level exhaust system which Mick preferred for his riding style.

And the results proved Denis, Toivo and Mick right. At Louden New Hampshire in May 2011, Mick finished near the front in his first race on the new CMR Drixton Yamaha 750 twin - despite riding this very technical track for the first time. Mick couldn't stop talking about how well the bike handled. At every event Mick entered throughout 2011, he ended up close to or on the podium, except for an incident at Mid-Ohio where he crashed (low-sided) and escaped relatively unscathed. And this, with an engine basically stock except for the larger capacity.

Denis had worked with Works Performance Shocks ( www.worksperformance.com) of California on many projects during 2011 and their senior engineer Pierre Vaillancourt produced the twin rear shocks to assist with the handling package for Mick's bike. Mick reports that the bike handles extremely well on all tracks and surfaces. As he says "I can put the bike anywhere I want and it's happy to go there". The CMR Drixton is a  predictable and reliably handling bike - and the results prove it.

At Mid-Ohio Mick was staying with 4-cylinder 750's with lots more horsepower - what he lost on the straightaways he made up for in the corners due to the superb handling of the CMR framed bike. Mick rode Louden, Mid-Ohio, Barber, and VRRA's Mosport, Shannonville and St. Eustache events in 2011. He set several track records in his class. In his first year of CMR sponsorship Mick captured the VRRA Period II Heavyweight Championship and Period III Middleweight Championship on his CMR framed machine. Mick's goals for the 2012 season are to pair the superior handling of the CMR Drixton with a more powerful XS750 twin engine to enable him to outrun the horsepower of the four-cylinder engined bikes.

Great rider, superbly handling CMR machine. A winning combination! Watch for Mick, #75, in 2013 at Canadian VRRA and U.S.A. AHMRA, AMA and WERA events.

CMR Aluminum Gas Tank and Seat Designs

CMR Racing Products Inc. produces motorcycle frames for all types of applications including street bikes. Not surprisingly, we can also design and manufacture a gas tank - an aluminum gas tank - for every frame. Why aluminum? Well, we all know that fibreglass, while an excellent product, is not capable of standing up to the additives in modern fuels. As hard as people try to add coatings to  fibreglass tanks, the result is usually a breakdown of the coating and subsequent plugging of carb jets leading to engine seizure.

CMR has been producing aluminum gas tanks for over three years. Many people have seen these tanks on our website and on race machinery at shows and race track events. People are impressed with the design, the workmanship, the quality and the price.  Let us know what tank you require; to date we have replicated racing gas tanks for the tiny Honda CR93 3-litre tank right through to the Honda RCB1000 endurance racer tank holding ten litres of fuel. We have also replicated a range of aluminum gas tanks for street machines from the BSA A65 tank to the Munch Mammoth tank.

Our latest tank and seat combination, which is a favourite of ours, is a design which fits the Yamaha TR/TD, RD350/400 and TZ 250/350A model.

The tanks come complete with front and rear rubber mounts replicating/updating the original parts. We also supply a tank top breather assembly as all tanks need to replace the gas sucked into the engine with air for optimum performance. We offer a choice of gas caps from period aluminum 'Monza' quick-action caps to more modern 'Newton' flush-mount caps and everything in between.

2011 and 2012 have seen a large increase in the number of frame kits ordered for "unlimited two-stroke" road racing. These include Yamaha TZ750, Suzuki TR/XR/GT750 and Kawasaki H2R750. We have supplied these kits to enthusiasts in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Belgium, Czech Republic, Scotland, England, Northern Ireland, the United States, and Canada.

With the new 2012 racing season already underway down-under, our stock of these frame kits is in good shape. Once we receive an order for a frame, we get to work on the tank; this usually takes between 3-4 weeks, so delivery is quick.

The CMR frame and swing-arm kit is manufactured from chrome-moly 4130 tube using tig welding. It is delivered in unpainted form. The kit includes all mounting hardware, axles, bearings and mounts. Everything you need for assembly is provided.

The CMR aluminum gas/fuel tank kit is manufactured from 3003 marine grade aluminum, using tig welding. The tank has a wire-brushed finish ready for painting and includes a standard tank top breather, four anti-vibration tank to frame rubber mounts and two new tank pull-down straps.
